Sometimes that thought wonders in my mind. Usually when I play I get busted with the best hand the majority of the time!

I would say luck is very important in tournaments, especially freerolls, during the beginning. There are many people that go all in randomly at the beginning and I either gets busted with a good hand or if I choose to wait till those donkeys get busted, I am usually at a disadvantage at the later stages against the larger stacks. But if you survive the first hour or two with a decent stack then skills come into play. Cash games are a different story though, I do get bad beats but it is not as common. And the bad beats are usually against worthy hands, aces vs kings compared to aces vs KQ in tournies.

Lately i have stopped playing online poker for the simple fact that i am a winning poker player when i play live and online i never seem to. i always find myself playing the same way but not everyone else. players online are calling and raising with donk cards and hitting them after i am already in with the best hand. i am not talking about them calling with drawing hands. i am talking middle to bottom pair and hitting two pair or trips on me. i am just sick of it.

I'd say 40% luck and 60% skill. Of course the betting strat and anticipation requires skill... but the flop of cards is clearly luck. More skill than luck imo

I agree with fingerlickinggood as he says that lucky is important in tourments. Indeed, if you consider an individual tourment, lucky really plays an important role. Otherwise, when you consider lots of hands played, in many different tourments or ring games, there will be all sort of situations in wich you may be lucky or not. Thinking that way, your overall perfomance will depends on how skilled you are not to lose much money when you get mishap and how skilled you are to be able get the most money you can from other players when you are lucky.

I think it depends on your style of play but its really hard to say that is soley dependent upon luck because if it were then we would not see many of the same people making the final table at the WSOP every year. There are plenty of hands when luck is important especially when everyone is pushing in early on in freerolls but the best thing to do there is to just stand back and wait until the initial rush is over and then play good solid poker. In serious games where cash is on the line though most people take in seriously enough that luck is only a small part of the game.
